Struggling with Inflammation?
This past year we have seen the introduction of a different approach to managing and resolving inflammation! Traditionally we have always tried to limit the inflammatory cascade using anti-inflammatory herbs and oils. With some people this just wasn’t enough.
SPMs have been identified as the resolving mediators that will turn off inflammation at the source. Sometimes we have inflammation start, which is good, but fails to turn off, which is not good. This leads to chronic disease and discomfort!

This patient is a 43 year old female who suffered from brain fog, fatigue and inability to lose weight. She had a subclinical hypothyroid, so she had thyroid symptoms while labs were still normal (they were low end normal on thyroid hormone). With a little supplementation and diet changes she has lost over 40 pounds, her brain fog has gone away and she feels much better. But, her inflammatory marker, HS-CRP remained elevated. Given, her HS-CRP was only mildly elevated at 3.8 I was still frustrated. As a side note, you really want your HS-CRP below 1.0. HS-CRP is a great marker for inflammation and cardiovascular risk that isn’t ran by most doctors. Every person who walks in my door gets it, along with a hand full of other specialty tests.
So, we decided to try 4 SPM-Actives a day for a month and see what HS-CRP would do. You can see the pre and post labs below, but she went from 3.8 to 3.0. This was a very good change for only 1 month of any supplement. It pulled her out of the increased risk for cardiovascular disease range into the average cardiovascular risk ranges. Needless to stay, I’m impressed.
